The Building Official issues building permits and conducts building inspections. A permit is required for any owner or authorized agent (contractor) who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, renovate, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system.

Building & Zoning staff support the city’s mission by administering the city’s ordinances, including:

  • Subdivision and Development Regulations

  • Zoning Ordinance

  • Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Ordinance

  • Land Use Ordinance

  • Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance

  • Nuisance Control Ordinance

  • Property Maintenance Ordinance

Additional services include maintaining zoning records and Subdivision Plats, issuing addresses, rezoning of property, LDA permits, Development Plan review, and Encroachment permits.

Building & Zoning staff are available to meet with applicants to discuss rezoning and development plans. Please contact us for a pre-application meeting where we will assemble relevant department heads to share information on applicable regulations and provide feedback on your proposal.
