About Main Street Metter

The Metter Main Street Program is part of a national network of more than 1,200 active Main Street entities. It is an essential, community-driven initiative that focuses on the revitalization of older, traditional business districts throughout the United States.

The Metter Main Street Program is a collaborative effort of downtown businesses, property owners, and other stakeholders working together to revitalize, market, and promote downtown Metter. The program aims to attract more people to shop, dine, and experience all that downtown Metter has to offer.

The program works to highlight downtown business specials, promote special events, and partner with business and property owners to enhance and beautify the downtown commercial district.

Main Street programs advocate a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets—distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a strong sense of community. Downtown Metter plays a vital role as the historic commercial center of Candler County, with several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
