Mr. Wood, City Manager asked me to share the information below with each of you.
In response to prevailing public speculation, the City of Metter has not been approached by any developer or property owner regarding development of a data center anywhere within the city limits of the City of Metter.
However, City staff has recently discussed with the property owners the possible annexation of a tract of land consisting of over 400 acres adjacent to the Metter-Candler County Airport. However, those discussions have been limited only to the annexation possibility, and no formal annexation request or identification of prospective use has been presented to the City.
Should any such annexation request be formally presented to the City at any time in the future it will be treated with full public disclosure and in complete compliance with state law and city ordinances. Annexation requests require public hearings which must be advertised in advance. Public comments are always welcome at any hearings held to consider any annexation request.
